Position Summary
We are seeking a board-certified or board-eligible Anatomic and Clinical Pathologist (AP/CP) to join a hospital-based pathology practice serving Victoria, Texas. The ideal candidate will possess strong diagnostic skills across a broad range of surgical pathology and clinical laboratory services. This position requires a pathologist who is confident, efficient, and collaborative in a hospital setting, with the ability to manage daily case volume and clinical responsibilities in both anatomic and clinical pathology.
Key Responsibilities
- Interpret and diagnose a wide variety of surgical pathology and cytology specimens (both GYN and non-GYN).
- Supervise and interpret results from clinical laboratory services, including chemistry, hematology, microbiology, and blood bank/transfusion medicine.
- Perform frozen sections, fine-needle aspiration procedures, and provide intraoperative consultations as needed.
- Collaborate closely with hospital staff, including surgeons, oncologists, and other clinicians, to provide consultative services and support timely patient management.
- Participate in hospital committee meetings, tumor boards, and quality improvement programs.
- Ensure compliance with CAP, CLIA, TJC, and other applicable regulatory bodies.
- Participate in on-call rotations for both anatomic and clinical pathology services.
Education Requirements
- Medical Degree: MD or DO from an accredited medical school.
- Completion of an ACGME-accredited residency in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology (AP/CP).
Experience Requirements
- Minimum of 2 years of independent sign-out experience preferred; however, recent residency graduates with strong references will be considered.
- Proven experience with a wide range of general surgical pathology cases, cytopathology, and core clinical laboratory management.
- Prior experience in a hospital-based or community-based pathology setting is a plus.
Licensure & Certification
- Board certification or board eligibility in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology (AP/CP) by the American Board of Pathology (ABP).
- Eligible for or currently holds an unrestricted medical license in the state of Texas.
- Certification or eligibility for Texas DPS and DEA licenses for the handling of controlled substances (if required for the role).
Preferred Qualifications
- Fellowship training in areas such as cytopathology, GI/liver pathology, breast pathology, or hematopathology is desirable but not required.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills to facilitate collaboration and clinical decision-making.
- Ability to thrive in a high-volume, multidisciplinary setting while maintaining accuracy and efficiency.
- Comfort with laboratory oversight, quality assurance, and clinical consultation in all areas of clinical pathology.
