Position Summary

A leading healthcare organization is seeking an experienced Division Medical Director of Pathology Services to provide executive leadership for a multi-hospital pathology network serving the greater Dallas/Fort Worth region. This senior physician leadership role oversees pathology operations across 12 hospitals and is responsible for driving quality, operational excellence, regulatory compliance, and physician engagement throughout the division.

This position combines approximately 70% administrative leadership with 30% anatomic and clinical pathology sign-out responsibilities. The ideal candidate is an accomplished pathology leader with extensive Medical Director experience managing multiple hospital sites and mentoring pathology teams.


Key Responsibilities

  • Provide executive leadership and strategic oversight for pathology services across a multi-hospital division.
  • Supervise and mentor Facility Medical Directors and Associate Pathologists.
  • Oversee physician scheduling, performance evaluations, coaching, mentoring, and quality reviews.
  • Establish and drive annual quality, operational efficiency, and performance improvement initiatives.
  • Monitor test utilization, laboratory quality metrics, regulatory compliance, accreditation standards, and physician satisfaction.
  • Provide professional oversight for clinical pathology operations, policies, and procedures.
  • Partner with laboratory administration to maintain compliance with CAP, CLIA, and other applicable regulatory standards.
  • Lead quality assurance and process improvement initiatives across the division.
  • Promote collaboration between pathology leadership, laboratory management, and hospital administration.
  • Support the recruitment, development, and retention of high-performing pathology teams.

Qualifications

  • MD or DO degree from an accredited medical school.
  • Board Certified in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology (AP/CP).
  • Minimum 5 years of hospital-based Medical Director experience.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience overseeing pathology departments across multiple hospitals.
  • Texas medical license or eligibility to obtain licensure.
  • Proven experience leading large physician groups and mentoring pathologists.
  • Strong knowledge of laboratory operations, quality management, and regulatory compliance.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience overseeing a centralized histology laboratory.
  • Multi-site pathology practice leadership experience.
  • Strong background in quality improvement, operational performance, and laboratory utilization management.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and organizational leadership skills.
