We are seeking a Board-Certified AP/CP Pathologist to join our growing hospital-based practice in Dothan, Alabama. This position offers the autonomy of an independent hospital role with the strong backing of a collaborative, experienced pathology team.
The position is based at a 300-bed hospital with a robust oncology program and high cancer case volume, providing exposure to a wide range of complex and challenging pathology cases. What You Will Do
- Sign out a wide range of anatomic pathology cases
- Provide frozen section coverage
- Oversee clinical laboratory operations and quality
- Collaborate with a dedicated onsite Pathologists’ Assistant (majority of grossing performed by PA)
- Access remote digital pathology support and expert consultation
- Participate in tumor boards, hospital committees, and multidisciplinary meetings
- Maintain compliance with CLIA, CAP, Joint Commission, and hospital standards
Case Volume & Practice Scope
The practice supports a high-volume hospital laboratory, including approximately:
- 11,000 surgical pathology cases annually
- 2,700 cytology cases
- 800 blood smears
- 10 peripheral blood cases
The hospital has a strong oncology program, resulting in a significant number of cancer and complex diagnostic cases across multiple subspecialties.
What We Are Looking For
- Board certification in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology (AP/CP)
- Subspecialty training preferred but not required, including but not limited to:
- Surgical Pathology
- Cytopathology
- Breast Pathology
- Lung Pathology
- Gastrointestinal (GI) Pathology
- Genitourinary (GU) Pathology
- Eligibility for Alabama medical licensure
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to practice independently in a hospital-based setting
- Commitment to quality, compliance, and collaborative care
